Dear Colleague,

Welcome to Óbidos and to the Congress Novas Fronteiras em Medicina Cardiovascular organised for the ninth consecutive year by AIDFM, with the scientific coordination of the Department of Coração e Vasos from CHULN-CAML.

This Congress first aim is to promote an open discussion on the new frontiers in what has been a fascinating evolution in the field of cardiovascular therapeutics and diagnosis. We have here a considerable number of national and foreign experts, which makes this an excellent opportunity for postgraduate training in the field of Cardiovascular Medicine.

As a result of the significant growth witnessed in this 9th edition of the Congress, there will be two simultaneous plenary sessions. Therefore, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery will occupy, exclusively, a set of sessions centred in a single plenary room. Speakers may circulate freely between the two rooms.

The three-day Congress will be held exclusively at The Village Praia D'El Rey Óbidos conference centre.
Despite being a meeting primarily aimed at the health professionals who deal with cardiovascular problems on a daily intensive basis, we decided to enlarge its scope to those professionals whose area of intervention also covers cardiovascular diseases, such as internists, intensivists, surgeons, family physicians, nurses and technicians.
We depend on your active participation to help create a dynamic interactive environment for an exchange of experiences. At the same time, this is also an opportunity to reveal more about some of the numerous research projects and, through the interaction with colleagues from other centres, also launch some new ideas.

We are confident that this conference represents a meeting point for the colleagues who share the same problems and concerns, taking advantage of the region's surroundings to create moments of reflection in a conducive environment.
